THE novel anti drug sponsorship negotiated between the Limerick County GAA Board and the MidWestern Health Board is in danger of collapsing.
Officials at GAA headquarters in Croke Park have told the county board that messages carried on jerseys and helmets are against sponsorship guidelines.
Croke Park officials stressed there is no difficulty in a sponsor ship deal with the health board.
The health board's chief executive officer, Mr Denis Doherty said yesterday that the objective of the sponsorship package was to get an anti drug message across to the public.
It would be no longer interested if only the sponsor's name appeared and it would be a waste of public funds promoting the name of the health board, said Mr Doherty.
The message on the Limerick jersey was to have read "Drug free - cul".
The county board had planned to introduce the new gear yesterday.
The county board public relations officer, Ms Sandra Marsh, has been in contact with GAA headquarters, and efforts are being made to arrange a meeting or Saturday to try and find a solution.
The sponsorship deal for an undisclosed sum was for three years.
