GAA:Despite last year's problems the GAA still intends to hold the presentations of the All-Ireland football and hurling finals on the pitch at Croke Park as opposed to the main stand.

Last year the Association tried to present the Sam Maguire and Liam McCarthy Cups on the pitch at headquarters but were forced to abandon plans following invasions by Kerry and Kilkenny fans after the final whistles.

GAA president Christy Cooney confirmed the plan was still to go ahead but remained cautious and called for full co-operation from the fans.

"The focus is on the All-Ireland finals now, and we're going to make the presentation in the middle of the pitch,” said Cooney.

"We're going to have ourselves organised to make sure we have no pitch invasions. I'm very optimistic we will put everything in place to make sure that happens, but we can't do that without the support of spectators.

"The last thing we want to do is put fencing up around Croke Park."

Concerns for fans, players and officials was raised during the recent SFC Leinster final when referee Martin Sludden was attacked by irate Louth fans after he controversially allowed an illegal Joe Sheridan goal in injury time which won Meath the provincial title.
