The GAA will meet with Aussie Rules agent Ricky Nixon to discuss the latter's plan to set-up a scouting scheme for Australian clubs in Ireland.
GAA president Nickey Brennan and Árd Stiurthoir Pauric Duffy will meet Nixon next week to clarify the plans of his Flying Start Management agency.
Nixon is reportedly charging an €18,600 fee for AFL clubs to receive a personalised scouting channel in Ireland. He is due to meet up to 20 young GAA players over the coming week.
Brennan today stressed that nothing would be agreed or approved at the meeting but that he wished to understand what the project entailed so as to decide what position the association will take.
He did not rule out the involvement of the GAA.
The GAA wishes to maintain a good relationship with the AFL and accepts that it cannot prevent young players from leaving for Australia, but the idea of a formal recruitment drive for talent does not sit well with the association.
However, Nixon has already mooted the possibilty of county boards being compensated for the loss of young players.
