GAA:The All-Ireland under-21 hurling final will be played at Semple Stadium as planned after Galway officials agreed to go ahead with the fixture.
The Tribesmen were unhappy the match against Tipperary wasn't moved away from Thurles, which is set to host the final on a permanent basis, and sent a letter to the GAA’s Central Competitions Control Committee requesting a change of venue.
When their request was turned down by the CCCC, there had been calls within the county to boycott the match but, despite their bitter disappointment at the decision, the hurling board decided against such a course of action.
Tipperary will be going for an All-Ireland double after their success in the senior hurling final last Sunday. Eight members of that team - Padraic Maher, Noel McGrath, Patrick Maher, Michael Cahill, Michael Heffernan, Seamus Hennessy, Brendan Maher and Brian O’Meara - are also eligible for the under-21s.
