A gang of five men attacked two elderly brothers in their Co Armagh home last night.
One of the men was taken to hospital after the assault on Creenagh Road, Loughgall at about 7pm.
A police spokesman said five men aged between 19 and 25 years knocked repeatedly on the front door.
"When one of the householders, aged 70, opened the door the assailants pushed him back, assaulted him with a cudgel before entering the house," the spokesman said.
The man's 75-year-old brother was in bed at the time and the assailants put a blanket over his head. They then ransacked the house, the spokesman added.
It is believed the men left the scene in a dark coloured car.
The 70-year-old was treated in hospital for an eye injury. His brother was shocked but otherwise uninjured.
