LIBERTAS FOUNDER:THE FOUNDER of Libertas, Declan Ganley, said he had not ruled out a political career in the aftermath of yesterday's No vote.

Mr Ganley, who is based in Galway in the North-West constituency, said he had not yet thought about running for the European parliament.

"I am not ruling it in or out," he added.

He also refused to be drawn on whether Libertas might evolve into a political party.

Mr Ganley said Libertas was originally founded as a think-thank. He had been overwhelmed by the reaction the organisation had received from the people of Ireland on the ground.

"Does this bring with it a duty to continue on, to do something more?

"I think that depends on what happens next. Will Brian Cowen and our Government go and get a better deal for us? Will Brussels listen to this message?"

At a press conference in Dublin yesterday, he said the No vote was not a Eurosceptic message. "It is a pro-European message."

He added that people wanted to see Europe democratic and accountable to everybody.

"We can no long longer continue to confer powers on a Brussels which does not listen to the people and ignores their expressed democratic will."
