Spanish sensation Sergio Garcia will take a two-shot lead into tomorrow’s final round of the rain-delayed Buick Classic in New York.
The 21-year-old Ryder Cup star, who broke his duck on the American tour when winning the MasterCard Colonial in Texas in May, edged ahead of joint halfway leader Scott Hoch courtesy of a third-round five-under-par 66.
Five birdies and an eagle, against two bogeys, helped propel Garcia to 12 under for the tournament, while Hoch had four birdies and a bogey in his 68.
John Patrick Hayes is alone in third after a 67 moved him up to nine under while Stewart Cink (69), Russ Cochran (67) and Sweden's Gabriel Hjertstedt (68) are another shot back in a tie for fourth.
Tiger Woods is two more shots back on four under after adding a 68 to earlier rounds of 75 and 66.
Another Swede, Per-Ulrik Johansson slipped back to three under after a 72 but England's Nick Faldo continued to battle back from his opening-round 73 after a 70 put him on two under.
The final round was put off until tomorrow due to persistent rain on the first three days. -PA
