Gardaí in Co Kerry have appealed for information after a single vehicle crash in the early hours of Sunday morning that claimed the death of a popular Castleisland taxi driver on the main Castleisland to Scartaglen road.

The man, Paudie Fitzmaurice (46), was originally from Brosna but living in Castleisland. He was married with young children.

He had taken a group of people from Castleisland town to Scartaglen. He was on his way back to Castleisland in his minibus when the crash occurred at around 2.50am three miles from the town.

Mr Fitzmaurice who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene. Local councillor Bobby O’Connell (FG), former mayor of Kerry, said he was “a great family man and a great member of the community. He was very well-known and liked”.
