The Garda is to undertake a special crime prevention campaign targeted against attacks on members of the gay community.
Deputy Garda Commissioner Peter Fitzgerald will officially open the "Be Proud, Be Safe" campaign at Garda headquarters in Dublin tomorrow.
The campaign coincides with the annual Gay Pride celebrations that take place this week.
Gardaí will offer safety advice to members of the gay community and encourage victims of homophobic incidents to report them to gardaí.
A poster, leaflet and business card will complement advertisements that have been placed by An Gárda Síochána in a number of magazines.
The Garda also hopes the campaign will raise awareness of the role of the 16 gardaí appointed to liaise with the gay community.
There has been concern among the gay community in Dublin about an increasing number of violent attacks in certain parts of the city, which in some cases appear to be aimed at the patrons of known "gay-friendly" venues.
