GARDA subaqua divers yesterday joined the search for a man who has been missing since he went walking in the Dublin mountains last Tuesday.

Mr Colm Wall (41), of Firhouse, Co Dublin, an experienced walker, told his family he was going for a walk in an area between the Stone Cross, Tallaght, and Kippure mountain.

When he failed to return home on Tuesday night, a search began and his car was found parked near the Stone Cross, a traditional entry point to the Dublin and Wicklow mountains.

Despite an intensive search during the week involving a helicopter with heatseeking equipment, the mountain rescue service, volunteer searchers and Army units, Mr Wall has not been found.

The Garda subaqua team concentrated its search on the Bohernabreena reservoir area yesterday.

The land search was concentrated on a 10 square mile area covering the six mountains between Tallaght and Kippure which contains some very rough terrain.

Mr Wall, described as 5 ft 7 in tall, with red hair and a beard, was wearing combat green trousers and walking boots.

It is feared he may have been taken ill or fallen into one of the many bogholes or underground river systems in the mountains.
