Four summonses have been issued in relation to the Garda investigation into the fishing industry which was initiated two years ago.

Companies in Donegal, Galway and Kerry are understood to have been summonsed to appear before Donegal District Court on December 6th in relation to alleged offences under the Fisheries Act.

It is believed they relate to logbook recordings, declarations and reporting of catches.

The investigation into alleged fraudulent landings and alleged collusion with officials in the Department of Communications, Marine and Natural Resources was initiated in October 2004 by Minister for the Marine Noel Dempsey.

During the investigation, some 100 gardaí raided homes and businesses in several west coast ports and equipment was seized from fishing vessels and private homes in several ports.

Files were sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions and were referred to the Attorney General's office before approval for issuing the summonses was given.
