Garda operations to deal with the illegal importation of fireworks will be conducted in the run up to and during Hallowe'en, according to the Minister for Justice.
Mr O'Donoghue also said there will be a publicity campaign about the dangers of handling fireworks.
The Department is currently reviewing legislation dealing with fireworks, which are considered to be explosives.
He told Mr Austin Currie (FG, Dublin West) that even though the policy is restrictive and licences are only granted for organised displays by professional operators, illegal importation continues.
