A plane crash scenario will be staged close to the border later today, in an attempt to see how the Garda and the PSNI would cooperate in an emergency.
Officers from both sides of the border will take part in the training exercise near Manorhamilton, between counties Leitrim and Fermanagh.
Fake debris and casualties will be used to simulate the aftermath of a disaster.
Members of the Garda and the Police Service of Northern Ireland will stage a joint investigation, and will liaise with other emergency agencies.
A Garda spokeswoman said the scene would be as close to reality as possible and would take place along the border between the two counties.
It is part of a project to see how members of the European Union would respond to major disasters close to international borders.
Gardai said it was also in keeping with a recommendation of the Patten Report on Policing in Northern Ireland.
