A Garda witness at an explosives trial at the Special Criminal Court in Dublin has rejected a claim by the defendants that the type of equipment involved was for poitín.
Philip McKevitt (58) and Conan Murphy (25), both of Mount Pleasant, Dundalk, Co Louth, have pleaded not guilty to the possession of an improvised trailer and two gas cylinders adapted to cause an explosion on May 22nd, 2010.
Garda Fergus Gaughan told the court that he had experience with poitín stills in the west. The equipment involved in these charges could not have been used in the manufacture or distillation of poitín.
