Garda suspended after drugs haul

A 28-year-old garda, who is stationed in north Dublin, has been suspended from the force by the Garda Commissioner.

A 28-year-old garda, who is stationed in north Dublin, has been suspended from the force by the Garda Commissioner.

The  garda is being questioned by detectives today in relation to a €250,000 drugs haul in Drogheda yesterday.

He is being detained under Section 2 of the Drug Trafficking Act at Drogheda Garda Station and can be held without charge for up to seven days. It is understood he has been a member of the gardai for seven years.

Officers seized 13,300 ecstasy tablets, cocaine and amphetamines in a planned raid on an apartment on Dyer Street.

The garda is believed to have been in the apartment at the time.

A 32-year-old man also arrested at the scene was charged under drugs legislation at Ardee District Court last night.
