Senior officers of both the Garda Síochána and the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) are to meet in conference at the Garda College in Templemore, Co Tipperary, next week. The meeting, entitled The First Joint Garda/PSNI Conference, will last two days.
Some 65 senior officers from the PSNI, led by the new acting Chief Constable, Mr Colin Cramphorn, will attend. The PSNI delegation will include some 11 officers of chief constable rank and all the force's chief superintendents. The Garda delegation will be headed by Commissioner Pat Byrne.
The conference is part of the "roll-out" of the recommendations in the Patten Report, which has led to major changes in policing in the North as well as prompting greater co-operation between the two forces.
