Gardaí have abandoned their search of a grave in Co Laois after detectives found no evidence of a second body illegally buried in the plot.
Earlier the body of an elderly man was removed from the grave in Ballylinan after gardaí received information the plot may have also contained the body of a female.
But this afternoon gardaí said that following an extensive examination of the grave they had found no evidence of any other body.
A spokesman said the force received information several weeks ago from what he described as "a credible source" that the body of a female may have also been placed in the plot around the time of the burial of the man.
He said the search has now been concluded and that gardaí were not linking the search to any specific crime or any missing persons
