INVESTIGATION:GARDAÍ IN Donegal say they are receiving "excellent co-operation" from members of the public in their investigation into the crash on Sunday in which eight men were killed.
Supt Kevin English of Buncrana Garda station yesterday appealed for any further witnesses who saw the black VW Passat in which the seven young men aged between 19 and 23 were killed in the crash, near Clonmany, to contact gardaí.
“It is still very much a live investigation and there are other witnesses we have identified we wish to interview. We will be conducting interviews with members of the families of the deceased but we have the funerals on-going at present and it is a very difficult and sensitive time for all,” said Supt English.
“I can confirm that we have spoken to the local lady who was driving the white Renault Megane which was hit by the Passat minutes before the fatal crash occurred.”
Supt English said gardaí had not yet interviewed Shaun Kelly (22) of Ballymagan, the driver of the VW Passat, who has been in intensive care in Letterkenny General Hospital since the crash.
At the funeral Masses yesterday for Mark McLaughlin (21), PJ McLaughlin (21) in Fahan and Hugh Friel (66) in Clonmany, prayers were offered for the recovery of Shaun Kelly.
A source close to the family said he may require surgery but he was still unconscious and did not know that all seven passengers were dead.
A further four victims of the crash will be laid to rest today.
