Gardai have appealed to the public for help in investigating the rape of a teenage girl as she walked home from a friend's house.
The girl was attacked as she walking home through Carrigtwohill in east Cork at about 12.30 a.m. on Thursday night/Friday morning. She was walking through Main Street in the village when a man grabbed her and dragged her down nearby Well Lane, where he sexually assaulted and raped her.
Gardai later arrested a man in his 30s from east Cork in connection with the attack and brought him to Midleton Garda station for questioning.
The girl managed to make her way home to raise the alarm and a doctor was called to treat and examine her. She was deeply traumatised by the attack, said a Garda source. Yesterday Garda technical experts carried out an extensive forensic examination of the scene of the attack. A Garda spokesman appealed to anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in the Carrigtwohill area to contact them.
All calls will be treated in confidence, and gardai can be contacted at Carrigtwohill on (021) 883222, Cobh on (021) 811333 and Midleton on (021) 631324.
