GARDAÍ IN Cork are investigating the sexual assault of a woman in her 30s. She was attacked in the grounds of a church in the city over the weekend.
The incident occurred at about 3am on Saturday at the Wilton entrance to the Church of the Holy Spirit at Dennehy’s Cross on the southside of the city.
It is understood the woman was walking home from the city when the assault occurred. The victim was set upon by two men. She subsequently received treatment at the Sexual Assault Treatment Unit in the South Infirmary Victoria Hospital.
Gardaí cordoned off the Wilton Road entrance to the church and a forensic examination was carried out of the site.
The woman had walked along the Western Road in the direction of Victoria Cross and up to Dennehy’s Cross when the attack occurred.
