Gardaí in Limerick have arrested six people in connection with a gangland killing on the outskirts of the city last year.

All six were arrested yesterday morning as part of the ongoing investigation into the murder of 25-year-old David Nunan.

The body of Mr Nunan from O'Malley Park, Southill, was found with gunshot wounds to the back in a country lane in the village of Parteen, Co Clare, on October 28th last. The victim had been released from Limerick prison just days before his murder after serving a sentence for firearms offences.

One of the lines of inquiry explored by gardaí was that Mr Nunan may have been involved in a row behind bars with a known criminal.

At the time, his violent death marked the first murder investigation in the Limerick Garda division for more than 18 months. To date no-one has been charged in connection with his death. A Garda spokesman confirmed yesterday that three men and three women - ranging in age from late teens to late 20s - were arrested yesterday morning at various locations in Limerick city.

They were being held for questioning last night at Garda stations in Limerick city and county under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act. They can be detained for 72 hours without charge.
