Three young people were arrested yesterday after a car in which they were travelling lost control and crashed on the M50 in Dublin yesterday morning.

The 22-year-old man and two 19-year-old women were arrested after being treated in hospital and were being held at Dun Laoghaire Garda station.

A fourth young man was seriously injured and was being treated in Tallaght hospital.

The four were travelling in a car that went out of control and crashed between the Sandyford/ Dundrum exit and the Firhouse exit at about 2am.

Part of the northbound carriage of the motorway was closed for several hours but reopened at about 6.30am.

A spokeswoman for AA Roadwatch said the closure caused relatively little disruption.

"The traffic always starts heavily at the Ballymun to WestLink end and by the time the traffic reached that area, it had already been cleared," she said.

Meanwhile, a teenager was killed in a crash in Co Donegal on Wednesday night.

The 18-year-old died when the car he was driving crashed into a bridge at Meenacladdy, near Derrybeg, at about 10pm. Gardaí from Bunbeg are investigating.
