Gardaí have arrested two men following an armed robbery in Castleknock early this morning.

Gardaí have arrested two men following an armed robbery in Castleknock early this morning.

The incident happened at around 4.40am in Georgian Village when two men confronted a local resident near to his home. Gardaí say one of the assailants was armed with a sawn-off shotgun.

The men stole a large quantity of cash from the man and left the scene in a VW Passat car. Gardaí were alerted and a short time later a VW Passat was spotted by gardaí at Snugborough Road.

The car was followed and monitored by the Garda Air Support Unit as it travelled towards the Kilshane area, north of Finglas, where it was stopped at Bay Lane, Kilshane.

Two men were arrested and taken to Blanchardstown Garda Station where they have been detained under Section 30, Offences Against the State Act, 1939. A large quantity of cash was also recovered at the scene of the arrests.

The VW Passat car and the scene of the robbery at Georgian Village are being technically examined today.

The arrested men both have Dublin addresses and are aged in their mid twenties. They can be detained for a maximum of 72 hours. No shots were fired during this robbery and nobody was injured.
