Two men have been arrested in connection with the death of a Kerryman (38) assaulted after the All-Ireland football final last month.

The two, aged 24 and 51, were arrested in the mid-Kerry area this morning.

Gerard O'Leary died from injuries suffered in an assault understood to have involved a number of men outside a pub in the centre of Milltown, Co Kerry, between midnight and 12.30 a.m. on September 27th.

Mr O'Leary, who was from the Killorglin area, fell to the street outside the pub and suffered head injuries. He was taken to Kerry General Hospital, Tralee, and was later transferred to Cork University Hospital, where he died on October 5th.

It is understood Mr O'Leary had been with his younger brother, who was home on a visit from Australia to visit their ill mother, when the row involving two other men broke out.

The two men are currently being detained at Killarney Garda Station under Section 4 of The Criminal Justice Act.
