Gardaí investigating the murder of Rachel O'Reilly today carried out an exhumation of her body at Balgriffin cemetery in north Co Dublin.

Forensic specialists, detectives from Balbriggan Garda station and the National Bureau of Criminal investigation went to the cemetery just before 6.30am and examined the body on site.

A Garda statement said the task was completed at 8.30am. Gardaí would not reveal why they exhumed the body but said they had been made aware of information in the past week that necessitated the examination of her body.

This afternoon the inquest into her death was adjourned for six months by the Dublin County Coroner's Court.

Garda Inspector Sean Galwey requested the adjournment because of inquiries into the woman's murder.

The mother-of-two from north Co Dublin sustained several blows to the head and was found by her mother at her home at Baldarragh, near Naul village, on October 4th, 2004.

There were no signs of a struggle between Ms O'Reilly and her attacker. The house had been disturbed, indicating a possible break-in, but the dead woman's family have said they believe this may have been staged and that Ms O'Reilly was probably killed by somebody known to her.

Money in Ms O'Reilly's purse was untouched.
