Gardaí in Dundalk have arrested two men after a patrol car was rammed and a shot discharged by a garda during an incident last night.
A Garda statement said the men were arrested by gardaí investigating criminal activity as part of 'Operation Anvil' in the north Louth area.
The arrests were made following an incident in Omeath at about midnight
"During this incident a patrol car was rammed and one shot was discharged by a member of An Garda Síochána," the statement said. There were no reported injuries.
One of the men was arrested at the scene and the other a short distance away.
Both men are in their 20s. They are being held under Section 30 of the Offences against the State Act, 1939, at Dundalk Garda station.
A technical examination of the scene is under way.
