A huge quantity of ecstasy tablets with a street value estimated at around £5 million were seized by gardai in the Crumlin area of Dublin last night.

The seizure took place shortly after 10 p.m. when a vehicle was stopped as part of a routine operation. A man was arrested and is being held at Lucan Garda Station under Section 2 of the Misuse of Drugs Act. Under this legislation he can be held for up to seven days.

A Garda spokesman said earliest indications were that the quantity of drug seized could be worth up to £5 million but added that a full assessment would be carried out this morning.
