Gardai are investigating the fatal shooting of a man in Cabra, Dublin, yesterday evening, the second fatal shooting in the State this week.
The man, who is believed to be in his mid-20s, was shot a number of times after a group of armed men arrived at his flat in Annamoe Terrace in Cabra at 7.30 yesterday evening.
The victim was shot in the chest, arm and shoulder areas. Locals reported hearing three shots fired in quick succession. A garda at the scene confirmed there were at least two shots, and possibly more. The victim was pronounced dead on arrival at the Mater Hospital.
It is understood the dead man was known to the police. He is originally from the south Finglas area.
The area around his flat has been sealed off. Members of the Garda Technical Bureau were examining the scene early this morning.
Detectives at the Bridewell Garda station in Dublin are investigating the killing. The State Pathologist, Dr John Harbison, has been informed, and a post mortem will be carried out.
It was initially believed the man suffered a number of stab wounds to his back, but it later emerged the injuries were caused by gunshots.
