Gardaí in Cork have spoken to a man who had to undergo emergency surgery after he was stabbed in the neck on Monday evening.

Gardaí in Cork have spoken to a man who had to undergo emergency surgery after he was stabbed in the neck on Monday evening.

The man (31), from Ardcullen, Knocknaheeny, spent several hours in surgery at Cork University Hospital, receiving a blood transfusion of 15 pints, following the attack. He was well enough yesterday to speak briefly to detectives.

The man was walking along Hollyhill Lane in Hollyhill at about 5pm on Monday when he was attacked by another man armed with a bottle who stabbed him in the neck.

Gardaí are understood to be looking at one line of inquiry involving a man in his mid-40s from the north side of the city. The investigation team led by Garda Supt Con Cadogan of Gurranabraher Garda station has begun visiting business premises in the area to examine CCTV footage, while gardaí have also carried out door-to-door inquiries.
