Gardaí were yesterday investigating the death of a 14-year-old boy who was involved in an accident while visiting his grandparents near Lixnaw in Co Kerry on Wednesday.
Yesterday Fr Mossie Brick of Lixnaw parish said the news had broken in the village only that morning and everyone was very sad for the boy's relatives.
"They are beautiful people and our thoughts go out to his grandparents and mother," Fr Brick said. Three years ago the boy's aunt, her five-year-old son and her boyfriend died in a house fire.
Gardai said the accident happened at about 7.15pm at Croughcroneen, Dysart, Lixnaw.
"A 14 year old male pedestrian was fatally injured following an incident with a van.Gardai are investigating all aspects of this occurrence.
"He was removed to Kerry General hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly after 9pm.
The boys details are not for release at this time."
