Gardaí in Rathfarnham, Dublin, are investigating the death of a 59-year-old local man whose body was found in Marlay Park yesterday.
The body was discovered by a passer-by at 1.30 p.m. in a small forest area next to some playing fields in the park.
The deceased is understood to be Mr Eamon Adams, who had been missing from his home at Pine Copse Road, Dundrum, since July 25th last. A recently abandoned car in Marlay Park's car-park has been identified as one Mr Adams had been driving.
The State Pathologist, Prof John Harbison, was due to complete a post-mortem on the body at Tallaght Hospital last night.
Earlier, Prof Harbison visited the scene with forensic experts who searched the area for possible evidence relating to the death.
Gardaí yesterday evening said they were unable to rule out foul play until they received the results of the post-mortem. Garda sources said, however, that initial indications were that it was an accident.
The body was said to have been sitting upright on the banks of a small stream which runs through the park next to a pair of GAA and soccer pitches.
It is understood a hurling match took place only yesterday on one of the pitches within 20 feet of the shallow stream.
The park recently hosted a series of musical events.
Up to 15,000 people were said to have been in a neighbouring field 10 days ago for a Meatloaf concert.
