Gardaí are trying to establish the cause of a fire in Dublin which claimed the lives of a man and a woman in their mid-20s.

Gardaí are trying to establish the cause of a fire in Dublin which claimed the lives of a man and a woman in their mid-20s.

The fire broke out in an apartment at Blackhall Square, off North King Street, in the Bridewell area shortly after 1 a.m.

Preliminary Garda investigations indicated the fire started in the bedroom of the ground floor apartment and was confined to the bedroom and adjacent rooms.

The two bodies have been removed to the temporary city morgue in Marino but their names yet to be released, a garda spokesman said.

The apartment was cordoned off for technical examination. State Pathologist Dr John Harbison is expected to attend the scene later today.
