Two pipe bombs found in Co Tipperary at the weekend have been sent to Garda headquarters in Dublin for forensic examination.
Details of the discovery, which was made on Saturday, only emerged last evening.
According to a Garda statement two pipe bombs were found by gardaí from Limerick at Emly in Co Tipperary, on the Limerick-Tipperary border.
Gardaí made the find after information was supplied by a member of the public, according to a Garda spokesman.
The discovery is being investigated as part of continuing inquiries into ongoing criminal activity in the Limerick region, added the spokesman.
The pipe bombs were recovered on the same day as gardaí in Limerick city carried out a massive search operation involving some 50 members in a northside city housing estate.
Approximately 53 houses, mostly in the Pineview Gardens area of Moyross, were searched in the operation, which led to the discovery of a submachine gun, a machine pistol, a telescopic rifle and some ammunition.
The search operation was in response to the feud-related violence which has erupted in Moyross over the past week.
And despite the huge Garda activity in Moyross over the weekend, shots were fired again at 1am on Sunday morning at a house in the Pineview Gardens area.
It also emerged yesterday that a house which was petrol- bombed in Pineview Gardens on Sunday afternoon was the childhood home of murdered gangland victim Noel Campion (35), who was shot dead last April.
Meanwhile, gardaí continued to question a 21-year-old man last night who was arrested at the weekend in connection with the weapons seizure in Moyross.
A 46-year-old man who was also arrested in connection with the same seizure has since been released without charge.
