A murder investigation is under way after a man's body was found in wasteland near Blackrock castle in Cork city shortly after 8 p.m. last night.
The man was named today as Derek O'Connell (27) from Knocknaheeney in Cork.
Passers-by spotted the man's body on the ground in Blackrock late last night and alerted the gardaí.
He had suffered severe head injuries.

Gardaí are forensically examining the scene, and the deputy State pathologist, Dr Marie Cassidy, is expected to conduct a full post-mortem later this afternoon.
