GARDAÍ IN Arklow, Co Wicklow are seeking help to find a man who has been missing since last Saturday.

Shay Prendergast (59) Knockmore, Wexford Road, Arklow, Co Wicklow, who is partially sighted, was last seen at his home at 7pm on Saturday. He is believed to have been wearing green trousers and a green jacket, is 5ft 10in tall, of medium build with blue eyes.

A team of eight divers from the Garda Water Unit was called in yesterday to conduct a search of Arklow harbour after Mr Prendergast’s wallet and walking stick were discovered on the quayside.

Despite an intensive six-hour search, no trace of the missing man was found. The Garda Water Unit will review the progress made before making a decision to return to Arklow today. Anyone with information should contact gardaí in Arklow on 0402-26320.

Meanwhile, rescue services searching for a man who was seen falling into the river Corrib in Galway city yesterday made a grim discovery when they found another body. It was not the body of the man in his 50s who went missing on Sunday night as it was in the water for at least a week. The remains were removed for a postmortem yesterday.
