Gardai hunting killers who stabbed a 42-year-old man to death have issued a picture of the victim in an appeal for information.
Paul Keegan, of Westpark Apartments, in the Chapelizod area Dublin was found in a laneway off Beechfield Road in Walkinstown on Monday at around 9pm.
He died a short time afterwards in hospital. Gardai released the victim's photograph in a bid to persuade anyone who might have been in the area and who witnessed anything to come forward.
Detectives led by Superintendent Bart Faulkner at Crumlin's Sundrive Road Garda Station are appealing for witnesses to get in touch.
They particularly would like to speak to anyone who was in Beechfield Road, Cherryfield Road or Cromwellsfort Road in Walkinstown between 8.30pm and 9pm.
Mr Keegan was with a friend when he was attacked in the south Dublin suburb. The men went to the lane at the back of Beechfield Road in a four-wheel drive vehicle, where it is thought they met with one or more people in another car.
It is believed the dead man was attacked at the scene at around 9pm while his friend raised the alarm by knocking on the door of a nearby home.
The friend, who detectives have already spoken to about the murder, did not receive any significant injuries. The victim was pronounced dead at around 9.30pm, shortly after arriving at St James' Hospital with multiple stab wounds.
A firearm was recovered close to the scene but gardai have not yet definitively linked that to the killing. Gardai said last night said it did not look likely the killing was linked to a road rage incident as first suggested, but that they were keeping an open mind.
