Gardaí believe those responsible for slashing tyres on five vehicles outside a Garda station on Saturday night are associates of men arrested on Friday morning following a botched raid on a Dublin post office.
The tyres of five cars were slashed outside Cabra Garda station at around 10pm on Saturday.
Four of the cars targeted are owned by gardaí who were on duty at the time, while a fifth car was an official Garda vehicle.
A 23-year-old Finglas man was being questioned in the station at the time of the attack. He was one of two men arrested on Friday morning after gardaí foiled an attempted raid on a post office on Fassaugh Avenue, Cabra.
The man was caught as he and an accomplice were trying to break down the back door of the post office just after the premises opened. One of the staff had earlier noticed that the chain on the back gate of the premises had been cut and gardaí were alerted.
Armed gardaí were waiting on the raiders inside the post office when the two men tried to ram their way inside using a steel girder. The 23-year-old was arrested as he tried to flee, but his accomplice escaped and was still at large last night.
A third man, aged 26, was arrested on Fassaugh Avenue at the same time. He was blocking traffic with his tow truck. Gardaí believe he was feigning a breakdown to cause congestion in the area to frustrate any Garda chase.
The 23-year-old will appear before Dublin District Court this morning to answer charges in connection with the attempted robbery.
The 26-year-old was released without charge from Blanchardstown Garda station yesterday.
A file on his alleged role in the foiled raid is to be forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecution.
Garda sources said they believe criminals linked to the two arrested men slashed the tyres. They believe the cars were vandalised to intimidate and embarrass gardaí.
