A man found shot dead in a "gangland-style" killing in north Dublin was today named by Gardaí as band manager Charles Merriman.
Mr Merriman (26) was found at the entrance to a field by two American tourists driving along a back road in Ballymun, near Dublin airport, at about midday yesterday.
He had been shot once in the back of the head in what officers said looked like a gangland-style killing.
Gardaí said they did not know whether he had been murdered at the scene. A team of detectives last night searched the scene near St Margaret's Road for clues. The area was sealed off to traffic as investigations took place.
It is believed Mr Merriman, who lived in the Constitution Hill area of Dublin's north inner city, had spent Saturday night watching the band he managed play at a pub in Dublin. He was last seen early on Sunday morning after he left a pub.
Gardaí have appealed to anybody who may have seen Mr Merriman on Saturday night or Sunday morning, or anything suspicious in the Ballymun area, to contact them.
Last night Mr Merriman's partner and young daughter were informed of the murder. A post-mortem was taking place this morning.
