Gardai in Cork have named the man who was shot dead outside his home on the outskirts of the city last night.
He was 29-year-old Eric Cummins, originally from the Lough area of Cork. He had been living with his partner and child at the Oldcourt Estate in the town for just two months.
He was shot several times by a lone gunman outside his house at approximately 10pm.
Reports suggest the killer was waiting near the man's house for some time before the victim arrived home.
The victim was removed to Cork University Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
Members of the Garda's forensic unit are due at the scene of the murder later today and the Assistant State Pathologist, Dr Margaret Bolster will carry out a post-mortem this afternoon.
Gardaí have appealed for anyone who may have seen a dark coloured Honda car in the area before the shooting, or who may have seen anything suspicious, to contact them.
