Gardai name two people killed in crashes

Two people killed on the State's roads in separate crashes in Co Westmeath and Dublin have been named this evening.

Darren Price (18) died in a single-car crash. His car collided with a truck near Kilbeggan at about 8.30am. The crash happened on the Dublin to Galway road on the Killbeggan side of Tyrellspass.

Price was an engineering student at Athlone Institute of Technology and had represented Ireland in Basketball and played Gaelic football for Westmeath.

Gardaí have appealed for witnesses to the crash and are anxious to speak to anyone who travelled between Tyrellspass and Kilbeggan this morning at 8.30am who may have either witnessed the collision or have seen the lorry or car just prior to it.

In Rathfarnham yesterday, an 83-year-old Elizabeth Stokes with an address at Ramleh Park, Milltown died whenher car hit a pole on the Upper Churchtown Road shortly after 1.20pm, gardaí said this morning.

Gardaí this morning named the two men killed in crashes on Tuesday. John O'Leary (47), of Blackwater, Co Wexford, was the driver of a car that hit an articulated truck at 4.40pm at Moorfields, Rathaspeck, Co Wexford.

The 23-year-old killed when a motorcycle was in collision with a car at O'Higgins Road, The Curragh, Co Kildare was as Rory O' Donnell of Pearse Terrace, The Curragh, Co Kildare.

Gardai at Ennistymon, Co Clare named the woman who died following a collision at Cullenagh, Ennistymon on Monday as Winifred O'Gorman (80), from Willbrook, Corofin, Co Clare.

So far this year 96 people have lost their lives on the State's roads.
