Gardaí in Tipperary have named a 20 year-old man who was killed in a single vehicle road collision near Nenagh yesterday afternoon.

The collision happened at around 2.15 pm yesterday at Carrigal, Carrigatogher, Nenagh, Co. Tipperary.  He has been named as 20 year old Denis Carroll of Kilcoleman, Nenagh, Co. Tipperary.

Elsewhere, gardaí have named the two motorcyclists killed in a crash outside Listowel, Co Kerry, yesterday.

The two men have been named as David Flynn (36) from and Owen Mc Gillicuddy (19), both from Listowel.

The crash happened on the R557 betweeen Finuge and Lixnaw. A third person was injured in the collision and taken to hospital.

A pedestrian who died after he was strcuk by a car on the Dublin-to-Cork raod near Durrow, Co Laois early on Sunday has been named as Michael Walsh (43),from Tully, Connemara, Co Galway.

A man killed in a collision at Drimoleague in Co Cork on Friday has been named as Peter Dukelow (38) from Durrus, Bantry, Co Cork.

Overall, seven people have died on the roads this bank holiday weekend, compared to four people who lost their lives during the same weekend last year.

Gardaí are implementing a major road safety campaign in an effort to help prevent deaths on the roads with extra officers deployed on roads for the duration of the bank holiday.

Speaking on RTÉ's Morning Irelandearlier today, the chairman of the Road Safety Authority, Gay Byrne, described the weekend death toll as "appalling."
