Gardaí have named the woman who died in a collision with a truck in Co Meath yesterday morning.

Margaret Kelly (73) of Draiocht, Athboy, Co Meath, died when her car was involved in a crash with a truck on the Dublin to Trim road near Batterstown at about 8am

She was the sole occupant of the car, and her remains were taken to Blanchardstown Hospital.

Gardaí in Ashbourne have appealed for witnesses.

So far this year 53 people have died on the State's roads. A total of 11 people lost their lives on Irish roads in the last week. The National Safety Council said the number of people killed so far this year was an increase of five on the number of fatalities in the same  period last year. Almost half of those killed in 2006 were drivers, while 15 were pedestrians, 10 were passengers and a single cyclist and motorcyclist also died on the roads.
