Detectives investigating the murder of the Dublin student, Raonaid Murray (17) yesterday renewed their appeal for more public help in their inquiries.

Hundreds of people have already supplied statements to the Garda, and the detective in charge of the investigation said a "number of lines of inquiry" are being pursued.

Det Supt Martin Donnellan again appealed to any member of the public or any taxi driver who was in the Dun Laoghaire area on the evening of last Friday week and who has not already made a statement to come forward.

He also appealed for help from anyone who might suspect someone of having committed the murder.

"This man must have a home. Someone must know something about him," Det Supt Donnellan said.

Detectives have received a large amount of useful help from taxi drivers who picked up fares or left people off in the Glenageary area. But they still wish to speak to other drivers who might have been in the area and who have not yet thought to come forward.

The search for the man whose photofit image was released last Friday, has still not yielded any conclusive results.

Although the man acted suspiciously after hailing a taxi in Dun Laoghaire about an hour after Raonaid was killed, there is no evidence to connect him with the murder. Gardai say they would like to talk to the man to eliminate him from their inquiries.

While the killer remains at large detectives express concern that there is the possibility he will attack again.
