Gardai have begun a murder investigation after a man (34) was shot dead in a residential area of Limerick city.

Brian Fitzgerald died after he was accosted by at least two men as he returned home from work. He died near his house in Brookhaven Walk, Mill Road, Corbally, at about 3.50 a.m.
A number of shots were heard and gardaí were called to the scene where the victim - a doorman in the city - was pronounced dead.
The area has been preserved and a team from the Garda Technical Bureau and the State Pathologist have been notified.
Garda Superintendent Willie Keane, head of the murder inquiry, said gardaí wereinvestigating several theories including one that he could have been targeted bya drugs gang.
One of the assailants is believed to have been wearing a motorcycle helmet. A motorbike was found burnt a short distance away, it has been reported.
