GARDAÍ ARE to prepare a file for the Director of Public Prosecutions in relation to a complaint by a 13-year-old girl that she was raped by a 17-year-old in a house in east Cork just before Christmas.

Detectives arrested the 17-year-old in east Cork last week under the Criminal Justice Act and brought him to Midleton Garda station for questioning.

He was released without charge.

Gardaí began the investigation when the girl, accompanied by her mother, made a formal complaint that she had been raped by the young man at a house in east Cork on December 13th.

The girl was also brought to the sexual assault unit at the South Infirmary Victoria University Hospital.

She was medically examined by doctors, and their findings will be included in the file being prepared for the DPP.

Gardai questioned the young man for over six hours at Midleton Garda station before he was released without charge.
