Gardaí in Limerick were last night questioning two men after a number of houses on the southside of the city were sprayed with gunfire on Thursday night.
Fears of an emerging violent feud in the city are mounting following this latest attack.
At least six shots were fired at three houses on Clarina Avenue, Ballinacurra Weston, shortly before 8.30 p.m. on Thursday night.
It's understood the houses were occupied at the time but no-one was injured in the attack.
Eyewitnesses said a man was seen fleeing the scene on foot towards a nearby railway track and carrying what's believed to have been a shotgun.
Gardaí immediately set up checkpoints in the area and shortly before midnight they arrested a 20-year-old man.
At lunchtime yesterday, a second man in his early 20s was arrested at a city centre flat in connection with the same shooting.
Both suspects were being questioned yesterday under Section 30 of the Offences against the State Act.
Meanwhile, members of the Garda Technical Bureau were yesterday combing the scene of Thursday night's shooting.
There have been up to a dozen shootings and arson attacks on the southside of Limerick in the past three weeks.
Gardaí have not linked these violent incidents in the area to the well-publicised gang feud on the northside of the city.
"We don't believe this has any connection with the northside feud. It appears to have started as a simple falling out between low-level criminals," said a Garda source.
