Gardaí are to send a file to the Director of Public Prosecutions following the arrest and questioning of two men about a second kidnapping and robbery of cash from a foreign national in Cork within the space of four days.

Officers arrested the two men, in their 20s and from Cork city, on Tuesday afternoon and are looking for a third man. During the incident a 21- year-old Czech national was approached on Popes Quay in the city centre at about 11 a.m.

In a separate incident last Saturday, two Nigerian men and a Nigerian woman were abducted from an apartment in Rochestown early on Saturday morning. Gardaí have ruled out any link between the two incidents.

The Czech man was lured into the men's car, held against his will and driven to Blarney. The gang assaulted and robbed him of about €60, stripped him of his trousers and dumped him in a field off the Station Road about 1½ miles from the village. Locals found him disoriented and shocked and alerted gardaí in Blarney.

The Czech man, who has been living in Ireland for the past 2½ years, later accompanied detectives in an unmarked patrol car around Cork city and he was able to point out two of his assailants.

Detectives arrested both men under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act and brought them to Mayfield Garda station. They questioned them for over six hours before releasing them without charge and a file will be prepared for the DPP.

Gardaí have appealed to anyone who may have seen suspicious activity in Station Road, Blarney, between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. to contact them at Blarney Garda station on 021- 438 5111.
