A Dublin man on trial for rape said he had made a statement to gardai in an investigation concerning a different matter about seven years ago.
On the fourth day of the trial of the 29-year-old man, who denies raping a 23-year-old student nurse at Kilakee Road, Rathfarnham, on April 25th, 1997, he told his counsel, Mr George Bermingham SC, he gave a statement to gardai about a matter they were investigating but he heard nothing more about that matter. He had no previous convictions.
He told Ms Miriam Reynolds SC, prosecuting, that gardai were investigating an offence and he was asked to make a statement.
