Gardai in Athlone have renewed their appeal for help in tracing a man they believe may be linked to an alleged assault on a 19-year-old woman in the town earlier in the week.
Detectives say the man is described as being in his late 20s, of five-foot-eight-inches to five-foot-ten-inches tall, with dark hair.
He is believed to have been wearing dark corduroy trousers and a dark jumper with a white collar.
The woman, a second-year student, was attacked about 2.30am early on Tuesday morning by a single assailant. She was shaken but not injured.
The latest incident is the fourth serious assault to occur at the Bonavalley Bridge on the Old Dublin Road, which was also the scene of three attacks last year.
Gardaí said they are investigating a link with last year’s attacks, but were not yet in a position to confirm whether it was carried out by the same attacker.
Gardai would like anyone with information to contact them on 090 6498550.
