Gardaí have renewed their appeal for help in solving the apparently motiveless and brutal murder of teenager Raonaid Murray.

Gardaí have renewed their appeal for help in solving the apparently motiveless and brutal murder of teenager Raonaid Murray.

The 17-year-old was stabbed to death on September 3rd 1999 just yards from her home in Dun Laoghaire, Co Dublin, as she walked home after a night out in a local bar.

The last possible sighting of the 17-year-old was with a man a few years older than her, who has never been identified.

As the ninth anniversary of the murder approaches, both gardai and the Murray family again renewed their appeal for help in catching Raonaid’s killer.

After a similar appeal last year, a number of people came forward and provided information which assisted the murder investigation, gardaí said.

Investigating officers believe that there may still be some people that have vital information who have not come forward to date.

“These people, some now possibly parents themselves, may be in a better position to come forward with information,” gardaí said.

Raonaid Murray left Scott's public house in Dun Laoghaire at 11.20pm on the night of Friday 3rd September 1999.

Her body was found at Silchester Crescent in Glenageary at 12.40am, only 500 yards from her home.

Gardai believe Raonaid was attacked between midnight and 12.10am.

The walk from Dun Laoghaire is approximately 15 minutes consequently there is a period of 20 to 35 minutes in Raonaid's last movements that have not been accounted for, gardai said.

Anyone with information should contact the incident room at Dun Laoghaire, or use the Garda confidential line at 1800 666 111.
